Suspicious fire destroys Turkish Minority School in Aşağıköy

A devastating fire erupted overnight at the Turkish Minority Primary School in Aşağıköy, a village under the Maronia-Sapes Municipality in Western Thrace. The school building was completely destroyed and is now unusable.

The blaze reportedly began around midnight under unclear circumstances. Locals were the first to notice the fire, which spread rapidly throughout the school. Firefighters responded promptly but were unable to save the building from total destruction.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire. However, questions have been raised in the local community as to how such a fire could have started so suddenly in an unused school building, especially during non-operating hours.

Police officers who arrived at the scene gathered initial statements from residents and have launched an investigation. So far, no official explanation has been given, and the possibility of foul play has not been ruled out.

The school served as an important institution for the local Turkish minority population. The incident has sparked concern and sorrow within the community, with many wondering whether the fire was truly accidental — or if something more troubling may be behind it.
