Small shipyards should be established in the ports of Western Thrace!

Our compatriots, who went to work at the shipyards from Western Thrace, were the subject of Maria Nikolaou's news-comment article on ertnews.gr.

In her news-commentary article for ertnews.gr, Nikolaou brought forward that skilled hands working in shipyards abroad can be evaluated in the region.

In the article of former Mustafçova Mayor Cemil Kabza, in which he expressed his opinion on the subject, Nikolaou stated that thousands of expert staff working abroad can stay close to their homes, with their families and children, with the small shipyards to be established in Alexandroupolis (Dedeğaç), Porto Lagos-Xanhti and Kavala.

On the other hand, in the news article that also included the opinion of Xanthi Workers' Center Angelos Bebekidis, it was emphasized that important steps should be taken to ensure that qualified craftsmen and staff stay in the region.

The news-comment written by Maria Nikolaou on ertnews.gr is as follows:

Experienced, skilled hands who have worked in shipyards abroad for years should be evaluated in Western Thrace.

With the small shipyards to be established in the Western Thrace region, a local employment environment will be created for thousands of Western Thrace people who have worked abroad for years and gained experience in this field. With the small shipyards to be established in Alexandroupolis (Dedeğaç), Porto Lagos-Xanthi and Kavala, thousands of specialist staff working abroad will be close to their homes, staying with their families and children and providing employment opportunities.

Such an investment will return professional hands to the region, who have worked at shipyards in the Netherlands and Germany in the last two decades and who have made their living by working at such facilities abroad on three, four or six-month contracts.

The ports of Porto Lagos of Xanthi and Alexandroupoli can be evaluated by establishing the necessary infrastructure, making investments for the establishment of shipyards, and opening centers that will provide training on security and technical issues in this field.

Dozens of shipyards operate in many European cities, especially in Germany. Thousands of Western Thracians work in these shipyards.

Tzemil Kapza, the former mayor of Miki (Mustafçova), told ertnews.gr on 8 December, "People with this great experience have to be made to return to their homes somehow. It's a pity." "Even today, thousands of people from the Xanthi have to work thousands of kilometers away. Investments to be made in this sector will enable these people to be employed in the region without having to leave their homes and families. If such an investment is possible, migration from the region to Europe will also be prevented," he said. .

THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR IS ALSO IMPORTANT

On the other hand, Angelos Bebekidis, Head of Xanthi Workers' Center, who spoke to ertnews.gr earlier, stated that the number of workers in the construction sector in the region and in Greece is constantly decreasing, and that important step should be taken to ensure that qualified craftsmen and staff trained in this field remain in the region.
