The 2024-2025 academic year officially began today in Western Thrace after a one-day delay caused by bad weather conditions.
Schools opened across the region with the ringing of the first bell on Thursday, September 12, 2024, following the decision of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Governor, Christodoulos Topsidis.
After the summer break, school administrators, teachers, and students reunited in schoolyards. Across Greece, hundreds of thousands of students from preschools, kindergartens, primary schools, middle schools, and high schools experienced the excitement of starting a new school year.
This excitement was also felt in the Turkish primary, middle, and high schools in Western Thrace. In Komotini, Xanthi, and Evros, both students and parents shared the thrill, particularly those entering first grade or transitioning from primary to middle school.
