Reply from ABTTF to Deputy Patriarchate

The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) responded to the Patriarchate's deputy in Athens, who tried to distort the Treaty of Lausanne.

Halit Habipoğlu, the president of ABTTF, responded to the allegations of Tsihlis' article referring to the Treaty of Lausanne and the Western Thrace Turkish society.

In the statement made by the ABTTF noted that, Tsihlis claimed in his article on the “flynews.gr” news site that the Western Thrace Turkish community was a religious minority according to the Treaty of Lausanne, whereas the minority in Istanbul was an ethnic minority, that is, the Greek minority. It was noted that Turkey, he claimed that Turkiye violated the rights of the minority.

ABTTF made the following statement: “In his article, Christos Tsihlis claims that there is a Muslim minority in Western Thrace and an ethnic Greek minority in Istanbul.

Tsihlis, who is a lawyer, knows very well that the Treaty of Lausanne includes the expression of only and only non-Muslim minorities.

If Tsihlis claims that the minority in Istanbul is a Greek minority, then he should have to say that the minority of Western Thrace is also a Turkish minority. Otherwise, it means that he does not abide by the principles of his profession as a lawyer.”

Tsihlis is a lawyer and constitutional expert who served as the deputy of the Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Athens.
