The highest death rate after Athens is recorded in the Western Thrace region.

Associate Professor Konstantinos Zafiris from Thrace Dimokritos University announced that the highest death rate after Athens was in the Thrace region.

Speaking to Ertnews.gr, Zafiris said that the population of Thrace is getting older and that in order to prevent this situation, encouraging measures are needed for young couples to have more children.

Zafiris stated that as a result of the research they have done in the last 10 years, they have observed that the population in Xanthi province is getting younger, albeit a little, and that the population is aging rapidly in the Rhodope province. Zafiris pointed out that Thrace is the region with the highest death rate after Athens.

Stating that they will carry out a study that will reveal the reasons for the increase in the death rate in the region in the coming period, Zafiris stated that the results of the research will be presented to the Municipality and the State administration within two years.

Meanwhile, according to the research carried out by the universities of Thessaly and Patra, some data have been announced, taking into account the population census conducted in Greece last year.

According to the research, population growth was experienced in only 13 provinces throughout the country, while the population decreased in 61 provinces. The highest population increase was in Kos (Kos) with 10.5 percent, and the fastest decrease was in Grevena with 16 percent.
