On March 2, 2025, during the Xanthi Carnival, a group of thieves attempted to break into a house, but they were quickly caught by the police.
On the Sunday of the Xanthi Carnival, a group attempted to break into a house. According to the information received, one person tried to break the door and enter the house, but the homeowner immediately called the police. As a result, the intruder quickly fled the scene. The thieves attempted to escape in a car parked in front of the house, but they were apprehended by the Xanthi police before they could get far.
In light of the carnival, Xanthi Police Department took extra precautions. They ensured that there were no traffic disruptions and deployed teams throughout the city to maintain safety.
The attempted burglary occurred in the Yeni Mahalle (New Neighborhood) area of Xanthi. This neighborhood is known for being a bustling area near the carnival’s end point and the city's entrance, where many police teams are stationed during the festivities.
Thanks to the immediate response of the homeowner, who called the police, and the many officers in the area, the suspects were apprehended before they could carry out their plan.
On March 4, the suspects were brought before the judge and received 1-year prison sentences. The thieves, who were reportedly from Thessaloniki, had traveled to Xanthi specifically for the carnival.
