Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis spoke at the presentation of the "East Macedonia Thrace 2030" program in Komotini on Friday 13 January.

Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis, during his two-day visit to Western Thrace, spoke at the presentation of the "Eastern Macedonia Thrace 2030" program in Komotini.

Stating that a total of 6.8 billion euros will be transferred to approximately 360 projects across the state, the Prime Minister argued that the region will make significant developments in the fields of energy, trade and tourism.

Mitsotakis said that all the necessary opportunities for the development of the province have been mobilized and that infrastructure works will be given importance especially due to the strategic location of the region. Noting that there are important projects to develop port, highway and train transportation in the region, Miçotakis stated that it is aimed to connect Alexandroupolis Port to the whole country by both land and rail.

Acknowledging that the modernization of the border gates was late, Mitsotakis added that necessary steps will be taken in this regard as soon as possible.

Emphasizing that they attach great importance to the security of the borders, Prime Minister Mitsotakis said, "We protect the borders of both Greece and the EU." Mitsotakis reminded that the steel fence built on the border of Meriç (Evros) province will be completed with state resources.

PM stated that regulations will be made in the field of health, and noted that one of the most important examples of this is the new hospital to be built in Komotini.
