Panel on "29 January and Its Reflections" held in Komotini

Western Thrace Turks commemorated January 29, when thousands of kinsmen who wanted to announce the denial of the Greek state's "Turkish" identity, oppression, and assimilation policies to the world took to the streets and in return received barbaric attacks.

The Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board (BTTDK) organized an event at the Komotini Turkish Youth Union local on Sunday evening, January 29, 2023 at 19.00 to commemorate the 29 January and the struggle.

The commemoration event with the theme "January 29 and Its Reflections", organized to commemorate the January 29, started with a minute's silence to commemorate those who participated in the struggle for the rights of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority and passed away to eternity. Then, a cine-vision show presenting January 29, 1988 and January 29, 1990 about the struggle was presented.

The opening speech of the program was made by BTTDK President and Mufti of Komotini İbrahim Şerif, who was the moderator of the event. He greeted his kinsmen and mentioned the meaning and importance of the event.

The event program then continued with speeches. Musa Vidinli, Former Deputy Governor of Xanthi, and then former Deputy Galip Galip, and then Journalist Hülya Emin spoke about the January 29. As the last speaker at the event, FEP Party Youth Branch President Burak Adil took the floor and gave a speech to the participants.

Speakers informed the participants about what happened on January 29 as part of the struggle for rights of Western Thrace Turks.

In the last part of the commemoration event, Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of Xanthi, also took the floor and greeted his kinsmen. Mufti Trampa shared his thoughts on January 29th in his speech and shared his ideas with the participants about what can be done about January 29th, which is the future of minority society, young people.

The commemoration event ended with a mini concert by Mümin Ali and his team.
