New Left Party submits parliamentary inquiry on hailstorm damages in Evros

The New Left party has submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food regarding compensation payments and hail protection measures following the recent hailstorms that severely affected Evros.

Six MPs from the party, led by Hüseyin Zeybek, MP for Xanthi and Agricultural Policy Coordinator, have raised concerns about the government’s failure to provide adequate hail protection, leaving farmers vulnerable to extreme weather conditions.

Key Issues Raised by the MPs:
🔹 The non-activation of Sub-measure 5.1 of the Rural Development Program (RDP), which was designed to support farmers against such disasters.
🔹 The cancellation of the National Hail Protection Program 2025 tender.
🔹 The economic impact on local farmers, who now face significant financial losses.

Parliamentary Questions:
❓ When will compensation payments be made to affected farmers in Evros?
❓ What immediate actions will the Ministry take to fill the gap in hail protection?
❓ Why has no new call been issued for Sub-measure 5.1 of the RDP, which could provide essential protection?
❓ What is the estimated damage, and what are the available financial resources of ELGA (Greek Agricultural Insurance Organization) for compensation?

The MPs are urging the government to take swift and decisive action to restore damages and implement preventive measures to protect farmers from future climate-related disasters.
