Mustafa Cambaz and 15 July martyrs commemorated in Menetler
Mustafa Cambaz, a photojournalist for Yeni Şafak (Türkiye) who was killed during the 15 July 2016 coup attempt in Turkiye, and all 15 July martyrs were commemorated with a religious ceremony in Menetler village of Kozlukebir municipality.
The program included Quran recitation, a Mevlid ceremony and prayers for the martyrs. The event was attended by Turkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine (Komotini) Aykut Ünal, Gümülcine Mufti Ibrahim Serif, representatives of minority organizations and many residents from surrounding villages.
Officials honor Cambaz’s legacy
Mufti Ibrahim Serif said Cambaz, who was born and raised in Menetler, became a source of pride for the Western Thrace Turkish community after losing his life during the defense of democracy on 15 July.
Consul General Ünal said the coup attempt was a historic moment in which the Turkish people defended democracy and national will. He added that the memory of those who lost their lives would continue to be preserved.
The ceremony concluded with prayers and a communal meal for participants.
