More helmets, fewer accidents: 1,468 checks, 86 violations in Eastern Macedonia–Thrace

Police in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace carried out 1,468 roadside checks between August 11–17, 2025, issuing 86 citations for helmet-related violations. The inspections were part of the campaign “Zero Tolerance for Riding Without a Helmet”, aiming for full compliance among motorcycle and light personal electric vehicle (LPEV) users.
Breakdown of Violations
During targeted checks conducted by traffic police in Kumçiftliği (Orestiada), Dedeağaç (Alexandroupoli), Rhodope, İskeçe (Xanthi), Kavala, and Drama, violations were recorded as follows:
- 67 cases involving motorcycle riders,
- 11 cases involving motorcycle passengers,
- 8 cases involving LPEV drivers.
The campaign focused on mopeds, motorcycles, three-wheelers, rental vehicles without cabins, and professional delivery riders, ensuring both drivers and passengers adhered to helmet regulations.
Public Awareness Actions
In parallel, police in Rhodope and Kavala held awareness sessions on the mandatory use of helmets, road safety, and traffic education, distributing informational leaflets to local citizens.
A Matter of Responsibility
Authorities remind the public that wearing a helmet is not just a legal obligation but a matter of personal responsibility and collective maturity. A helmet remains the simplest, most affordable, and often life-saving measure for riders and passengers alike.
Ongoing Controls
Helmet checks will continue across the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region with the same intensity in the coming weeks.
