The Ministry acknowledged the delays in expropriations and explained the process to be followed for compensation payments.

On Wednesday 25 June 2025, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport responded to the parliamentary question of Özgür Ferhat, New Left MP for Rodopi, regarding the grievances regarding the expropriated immovable properties on the vertical axis of the Egnatia Road between Komotini - Yanıköy (Nimfea) - Bulgaria. The Ministry acknowledged the delays in expropriations and explained the process to be followed for compensation payments.

In a parliamentary parliamentary question submitted to parliament on 14 May, MP Ferhat raised the situation of property owners who have been waiting for a solution for years regarding the expropriations announced in 2014.

In its response dated 23 June, the Ministry confirmed that there have been significant delays in the expropriation process and that some property owners have not been paid despite court decisions. In the statement, it was stated that the expropriations became legally invalid as the payment period of 1.5 years, as per Article 11 of the Expropriation Law, was exceeded.

THE NEW PROCESS WILL WORK IN THREE STAGES

The Ministry emphasised that in order to eliminate the grievance, property owners should request the continuation of the expropriation by making a written application. In line with this request:

- An administrative decision on the continuation of the expropriation will be taken, - A new payment list will be established, - Compensation payments will be initiated.

The Ministry also stated that the opinion of the State Legal Council (NΣΚ) No. 10/2023 was adopted by the minister on 7 March 2024 and became binding for similar cases.

"I WILL FOLLOW THE PROCESS"

MP Özgür Ferhat stated that he brought the grievances of the citizens to the parliament and expressed his satisfaction that the ministry has given a concrete response to the process. Ferhat stated that he will closely follow the process so that the beneficiaries can receive their compensation.
