Metios talks about what has been done and will be done on Social Services
The President of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (WMT), Christos Metios, spoke at the conference on Social Services organised in Drama.
In his speech at the conference, the President of the Region Christos Metios presented to the participants the activities carried out in the field of Social Services and the activities and programmes they aim to carry out in the coming period.
The conference was attended by officials from local authorities, social service organisations and representatives from associations from all regions of the state.
In his presentation, State President Metios emphasised that social services constitute the pillar of the policy of the administration:
- Parents with children living below the poverty line,
- Students with disabilities and special learning needs,
- Adults with disabilities,
- Abused women,
- Elderly,
- Roma communities,
- Unemployed
- He said that it is addressed to all citizens belonging to groups such as employees who need support.
Metios said that more than 86 million euros have been allocated from the European Social Fund to support these groups of citizens. Some of the aids provided are as follows:
40.3 million euros for nurseries and childcare centres to help parents with incomes below the poverty line to get out of childcare.
5 million euros to support pupils with disabilities and special learning needs with dedicated staff to help them integrate smoothly into school settings.
1.9 million euros for Day Care and Day Care Centres for People with Disabilities. In this action, we have included the Association "Hiking" and the Association "Agioi Theodoroi" in the Rhodope province in order to support beneficiaries from all over the region.
358.000 euro for the equipping of the 1st Special Primary School / Kindergarten and Special Vocational Education and Training Laboratory (EEEEK) in Komotini with buses and physiotherapy equipment.
- 2.4 million euro for Supported Living Shelters in Drama and Komotini. With this support, people with disabilities can learn to live as independently as possible.
- 3.1 million euros for Counselling Centres and Accommodation Hostels for abused women in Alexandroupoli, Kavala and Komotini.
- 3.1 million euros for Day Care Centres for elderly people who have difficulty taking care of themselves in the municipalities of Drama, Prosotsani and Nestos.
- 15.7 million euros for the establishment and operation of Community Centres. Roma branches of 22 Community Centres have been established in the province, one in each municipality. 8 of them are located in the municipalities of Orestiada, Dimetoka, Alexandroupoli, Shapch-Maronia, Komotini, Xanthi, Nestos, Drama.
- Financial support to municipalities for feeding needy citizens:
- 480.000 euro to the Municipality of K. Nevrokopi.
- 480.000 euro in the Municipality of Orestiada:
- 580.000 euro in the Municipality of Alexandroupolis.
- 195,000 euro to Nestos Municipality.
- 191,000 euro to Yassıköy Municipality.
