The 24 MEPs sent a letter to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, Egyptian Foreign Minister Samih Shukri and Egyptian Information Service Head Diaa Rashwan regarding the blocking of humanitarian aid from reaching Gaza.

"Israeli threats against the Rafah border crossing must not continue," the MPs said, expressing their support for efforts to protect international convoys delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"Our efforts aim to stop the genocide of Palestinians by providing the people of Gaza with the humanitarian assistance they need and international journalists with access to the region," the MPs said, emphasising the importance of journalists' access to the region.

The MPs called on Egyptian President Sisi to facilitate the access of international delegations to Rafah and allow them to escort aid trucks to the Gaza Strip.

On 29 February, the EP General Assembly adopted a draft resolution calling for an unconditional "immediate and lasting ceasefire" in Gaza by a majority of votes, marking the first time that the EP had called for an "unconditional" ceasefire in Gaza.

The European Union (EU) Commission announced today that it has decided to continue funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and will transfer €50 million to the Agency next week.
