Mayor of Bağcılar visits Western Thrace
During his visit, Mayor Yıldız first met with Türkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine, Aykut Ünal, followed by meetings with Komotini Mufti İbrahim Şerif and Sedat Hasan, President of the Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union.
He also paid respects at the grave of the late leader of the Western Thrace Turks, Dr. Sadık Ahmet, accompanied by Çiğdem Asafoğlu, President of the Friendship Equality Peace Party (FEP), and other party officials.
Continuing his program in İskeçe, Mayor Yıldız met with Mustafa Trampa, President of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Council and İskeçe Mufti.
Following the visit, Yıldız shared on social media:
"We are visiting the ancestral lands of our fellow citizens who settled in Bağcılar from Kavala and Thessaloniki following the 1923 population exchange. I thank all the institutions that welcomed us so warmly. We remember with respect the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet, who played a significant role in the achievements of the Western Thrace Turkish community."
