Maintenance works on Egnatia Highway: Traffic regulations between Yassıköy and Kösemescit in Rhodope
Maintenance works are set to begin on the roadway surface of the Egnatia Odos between the interchanges of Yassıköy and Kösemescit, covering the entire motorway stretch within the regional unit of Rhodope.
The works will be carried out by Nea Egnatia Odos S.A. as part of its contractual obligations after assuming responsibility for the international motorway. The specific section of the road has long been considered problematic, with numerous dangerous spots reported by drivers.
According to local reports, several sections of the asphalt—particularly on the lane heading toward İskeçe and especially the right lane—have developed serious defects, posing risks to motorists.
Traffic Regulations During Works
The traffic arrangements will be implemented in coordination with the Hellenic Police. Authorities clarified that the motorway will not be closed during the maintenance process.
Instead, the works will be carried out in stages and lane by lane, allowing traffic to continue flowing throughout the operation. Construction activities will take place only during daytime hours.
The contractor is also required to implement strict safety and warning measures for drivers, including the placement of warning signs and traffic cones along the affected sections of the motorway.
Drivers using the Egnatia Odos are advised to remain cautious and follow the temporary traffic signs while passing through the maintenance zones.
