Letter to Prime Minister Mitsotakis regarding the building problem of Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School

The Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School Board of Councillors and the Parent-Teacher Association sent a letter to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding the school building problem and conveyed their demands for a solution.

In the letter sent to Prime Minister Mitsotakis, signed by Ozan Ahmetoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Councillors and Cemalettin Efendi, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association, demands for short and long term solutions were expressed. Prime Minister Mitsotakis was asked to intervene in order to resolve the building problem of the Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School.

In the letter, it was reminded that with the start of the 2023 - 2024 academic year, parents and students were faced with the problem of shift (morning - afternoon) education at the school, and it was stated that the shift education system was abolished as a result of public reactions.

However, it was stressed that the use of the classrooms in the basement of the school was not allowed with the instruction of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Xanthi and the students were condemned to study in a cramped arrangement in 20 classrooms instead of 25 and it was noted that this situation caused a new victimisation and the problem of the physical capacity of the school once again emerged.

In the letter sent to Prime Minister Mitsotakis, the demand for a new building for the Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School was expressed once again. In the short and medium term, in order to solve the physical capacity problem, it was requested that the classrooms in the basement of the school be used as in the past, that prefabricated classrooms be built in the area used by the school or that public buildings that can be used as additional classrooms be allocated in the vicinity of the school.

The letter also expressed the expectation that the applications made to the local administration would be finalised as soon as possible.

The letter sent to Prime Minister Mitsotakis by the Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School Board of Councillors and the Parent-Teacher Association concluded with the following statement "We would like to bring to your attention our expectation for a solution to the problem in our school and we request you to take the necessary interventions to make improvements for the benefit of the community."
