Prosecutor to appeal release on parole for former Golden Dawn leader Michaloliakos
The appeals public prosecutor of Lamia will contest the decision of the misdemeanors judicial council of Lamia, which voted to release former Golden Dawn founder and leader Nikos Michaloliakos under conditions.
Michaloliakos has been sentenced to 13 years and 6 months in prison for leading the criminal organization Golden Dawn. Under terms of his parole, he is not allowed to leave Attica Region, he is required to sign in once a month at the closest police station to his house (Pefki), and he may not come in contact with fellow defendants convicted in connection with the same case.
Specifically, the Lamia appeals prosecutor will argue in his appeal that Michaloliakos does not meet the essential conditions to be granted parole. He has not shown genuine signs of remorse or moral improvement for the crimes for which he was convicted. In extensive online articles, Michaloliakos appears unrepentant and claims that he is imprisoned for reasons of political persecution and conspiracy.
Under Michaloliakos' leadership, the former party of Golden Dawn was found to have orchestrated a series of violent criminal acts committed by its members, including an attack that led to the murder of rapper Pavlos Fyssas.
