Lawsuit against FEP Party’s participation in EU Elections withdrawn

A legal challenge filed with the Council of State against the participation of the Friendship Equality Peace (FEP) Party in the European Parliament (EP) elections has been withdrawn by the applicants, bringing an end to the judicial controversy surrounding the party’s candidacy.

The lawsuit had alleged that DEB’s participation in the 2024 EP elections was unlawful and sought to overturn the Supreme Court's approval of the party and candidate lists. However, during the May 27 hearing in Athens, applicants Nikolaos Vasiliadis and Dimitrios Panagiotopoulos requested a postponement, which was rejected by the court following objections by FEP’s legal counsel, Mr. İlker Çavuşoğlu.

Following the court's decision to proceed, the applicants withdrew the case. DEB’s intervention in the case, aiming to defend its legal rights, was acknowledged in the court proceedings.

In an official statement, FEP said:

“Although we had hoped that our legal objections and the offensive accusations made against our party would be addressed by the judiciary, the applicants' voluntary withdrawal of the lawsuit has politically and legally satisfied us. We consider this withdrawal an implicit recognition of the legitimacy of our participation and our arguments in the eyes of justice and the public.”

The FEP Party emphasized that the original complaint included severe and defamatory claims against the party and its political activities. The withdrawal now closes the case without a ruling, effectively securing FEP’s right to participate in the elections.
