Late Mufti Ahmet Mete commemorated at his graveside on 3rd anniversary of his passing
The late Mufti of İskeçe, Ahmet Mete, was commemorated on the third anniversary of his passing with a memorial ceremony held at his graveside.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Muhammed Sait Sezer, Imam of Maltepe Central Mosque in Istanbul. Following the Qur’anic recitation, a collective prayer for the completion of hatim readings was led by Muhammed Masum Vanlıoğlu, a preacher from Türkiye’s Presidency of Religious Affairs.
Community and Political Leaders Paid Tribute
Several key figures from the Western Thrace Turkish community and Türkiye participated in the commemoration. Among the speakers were Mustafa Trampa, Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Committee and Mufti of İskeçe, Hasan Küçük, President of the Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association (BTTDD), Ahmet Kurt, Mayor of Mustafçova, Çiğdem Asafoğlu, President of the Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party, İskeçe MPs Hüseyin Zeybek and Burhan Baran, Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat and Aykut Ünal, Consul General of Türkiye in Komotini.
Speakers emphasized the profound contributions of Ahmet Mete to the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, highlighting his leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to the community. Each offered condolences once again to his family.
Family Thanks Attendees
The final address was delivered by Mehmet Mete, son of the late mufti, who thanked all attendees on behalf of the family.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Mete family served aşure and sherbet to those present a traditional act of remembrance in Islamic culture.

The ceremony was attended by a broad cross-section of the community, including, Members of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Council, Municipal council members, ex mayors of Mustafçova, local administrators, clergy, and many community members
Ahmet Mete, who served for many years as Mufti of İskeçe, is remembered with deep respect and admiration for his dedication to religious leadership and the rights of the Western Thrace Turkish minority.
Late Mufti Ahmet Mete Commemorated in His Hometown with Mevlid Ceremony
The late Mufti of İskeçe, Ahmet Mete, was honored on the third anniversary of his passing with a Mevlid-i Şerif and remembrance ceremony held in his hometown of Yassıören on Sunday, July 13.
Religious officials affiliated with the Mufti Office of İskeçe recited verses from the Holy Qur’an, as well as Mevlid hymns and ilahis. The gathering concluded with collective prayers for the late Mufti.
The ceremony was attended by many from the local Turkish Muslim community, including: Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of İskeçe and Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board, Hüseyin Zeybek, MP for İskeçe, Hüseyin Baltacı, President of the Association of Western Thrace Minority Graduates, Kerem Abdurrahimoğlu, President of the İskeçe Turkish Union, Bahri Belço, Vice President of the Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party, members of Ahmet Mete’s family and many local residents and community members.
Attendees gathered to honor Ahmet Mete’s memory, expressing their continued respect and gratitude for his lifelong service to the Western Thrace Turkish Minority.
