Komotini celebrates 105th anniversary of integration into Greece with ceremonies

The day’s events began at 11:00 a.m. with a religious service at the city’s church. Following the service, a delegation of religious, political, police, and military officials gathered at the Sword Monument in the city center for a wreath-laying ceremony.
Among the dignitaries in attendance was Aykut Ünal, the Consul General of Turkey in Komotini, who joined other local and regional leaders in paying tribute at the monument.
After the wreath-laying, the program continued with a military and civilian parade. With the officials in place, members of local cultural and sports associations marched first, followed by students from primary, secondary, vocational, music, and special education schools. The event concluded with the march-past of police and military units.
The Greek government was officially represented by Minister of the Interior Kostas Gulekas. Other attendees included MPs from Rhodope, Deputy Governors of East Macedonia and Thrace Emanouil Tapatzas and Ridvan Haci Mehmet, Mayor of Komotini Yannis Garanis, Mayor of Arriana Erdem Hüseyin, Mayor of Iasmos Caner Imam, as well as numerous religious, police, and military representatives.
