KKE Protests NATO drill in Petrochori, Xanthi

The Xanthi branch of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has voiced strong opposition to the upcoming NATO military exercise “Immediate Response 25,” set to take place from May 26 to June 9 in Petrochori, Xanthi.

The drill is part of the broader “Defender 2025” NATO operation, involving 25,000 troops from 29 countries, including 12,000 U.S. and 13,000 European soldiers, with the participation of Greek forces.

In an official statement, the KKE criticizes the Greek government for allowing the country’s involvement in what it calls “dangerous military plans.”

The party warns that such activities heighten regional risks and could make Greece a potential target for retaliation, especially amid ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The KKE calls on the government to:

Withdraw Greece from NATO exercises,

Shut down the U.S. military base in Alexandroupoli,

End the use of Alexandroupoli and Kavala ports for military deployments,

Bring home Greek troops stationed abroad,

And cease all arms shipments to Ukraine.

The party stresses the need for organized resistance against military entanglements and argues that Greece’s disengagement from NATO and the EU is essential for securing peace and stability in the region.
