Kıran: We follow the literal fulfilment of Lausanne
Yavuz Selim Kıran, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye gave important messages in his speech in the program of commemoration of Sadik Ahmet.
Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Selim Kıran stated that the Treaty of Lausanne, which is described as the founding document of the Republic of Türkiye, is also the destiny of Western Thrace Turks.
Kıran said, "We follow the strict fulfillment of every provision of the Treaty of Lausanne, and we are always against and will continue to be against efforts to erode these provisions." said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kıran said, “Once again, we commemorate Dr. Sadik Ahmet with longing and gratitude. God rest the soul. Rest in peace." said.
Deputy Minister Kıran stated that Sadık Ahmet is an unforgettable symbol in the struggle for rights and said:
“First of all, as Western Thrace Turks, although we are faced with difficult problems, we must always show the strength and ability to overcome these problems and demonstrate this on every platform, on the field and at the table.” he said.
Reminding that today is the 99th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne, which is also described as the founding document of the Republic of Turkey, Kıran said:
“A Treaty, which is described as the founding document of the Republic of Turkey, is also the fate of the Turks of Western Thrace. This is actually a document, an official photograph of the fateful union of the Republic of Türkiye and the Turks of Western Thrace. That's why we follow the strict implementation of every provision of the Treaty of Lausanne, and we are always against and will continue to be against efforts to erode these provisions."
Recalling the decisions taken by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding the violations of the rights of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority in Greece, Kıran said, “We, as the Republic of Türkiye, will always follow these decisions and the issues that are the subject of these decisions. We promise once again.” he said.
