Kasselakis: "We want a modern Greece that respects Human Rights and the Rule of Law"
ABTTF President: 'Our country, which for 16 years has not implemented the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights against our three associations in the case of Bekir Usta et al, is following a strategy of playing with time in this matter by constantly delaying the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. All attention on the international scene is focused on our country and our country must show that it fully respects the rule of law and international law by urgently taking the necessary steps to implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights regarding our associations."
Stefanos Kaselakis, president of the opposition Radical Leftist Coalition (SYRIZA), said after the parade to mark the anniversary of the annexation of Komotini to Greece that (Western) Thrace is one of the few and best examples of harmonious coexistence between Muslims and Christians.
Noting that they want a modern Greece that respects all human rights, the rule of law and international law, Kaselakis said they have a long way to go in this direction.
On this issue, the President of the European Federation of Turks of Western Thrace (ABTTF) Halit Habip Oglu said:
"As pointed out by the President of SYRIZA, Kasselakis, there are serious problems in our country with regard to the rule of law and respect for international law on which issue our country has been repeatedly harshly criticized by Europe in recent times. Our community is also directly negatively affected by the systematic violation of the rule of law in our country for years. Our country, which for 16 years has not implemented the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights against our three associations in the case of Bekir Usta et al, is pursuing a strategy of playing with time in this matter by constantly delaying the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
