July 15th Western Thracian martyr (şehit) was commemorated in his village
During the coup attempt by FETÖ, Mustafa Cambaz who was shot and killed by coup soldiers was commemorated in the village of Menetler in Western Thrace, Greece.
Mustafa Cambaz, the photojournalist of Yeni Şafak newspaper (Turkey), who was killed during the coup attempt of the FETÖ on 15 July 2016, was commemorated in his hometown of Western Thrace.
Cambaz's family, with the support of the elected mufti of Komotini, held a mevlid organization in the village of Menetler in Komotini, where the martyr journalist was born.
Komotini Vice-Consul of Turkey Ibrahim Sakli, Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Committee (BTTADK) President and Komotini Elected Mufti Ibrahim Sharif, Kozlukebir Mayor Ridvan Ahmed, Friendship, Equality Peace Party (DEB) Vice President Metin Hacıosman and representatives of minority organizations as well as many citizens attended to the organization.
"Mustafa left a pride for the Western Thrace Turks"
BTTADK President Şerif, in his speech after the mevlid organized for the Western Thracian martyr Mustafa Cambaz, who was shot while fighting against the coup attempt in Istanbul said, "Mustafa left a pride for the Western Thrace Turks, just like our ancestors did".
"As long as Western Thrace, Gümülcine exists, and people living in this land and we can freely say that we have a martyr too in the 15 July case. May Allah be pleased with him." said Şerif in the commemoration.
Şerif explaining that, inspite of his statless status he stepped out to the streets for a defense, said "Mustafa, although he was stateless as a Turkish man and a Western Thracian, he came out to the streets to defend the homeland, the crescent-star, and martyred in this cause".
Ali Cambaz, the brother of Martyr Mustafa Cambaz, told AA correspondent, stating that he was happy to be mentioned in the village of the martyr journalist, "I am trying to make it permanent. I intend to continue this ceremony with my own financial means." said.
Mustafa Cambaz, originally from Western Thrace, was shot dead in the chest by coup soldiers in Çengelköy during the July 15 coup attempt.
A graduate of Istanbul University, School of Press and Public Relations, Cambaz worked as a photojournalist for Yeni Şafak newspaper.
He had been working on documentating the photographs on Seljuk and Ottoman architecture and has a book called "Türkiye Ulu Camileri (Grand Mosques of Turkey)".
