Inquiry into cross installation on Sivritepe halted after lawyer’s intervention
On the morning of Thursday, 27 November, the citizens who had been summoned to the İskeçe Forest Directorate appeared at the institution accompanied by their lawyer, Barkas. However, after Barkas made procedural assessments, the case file was deemed invalid, and no further action was taken.
As previously reported, a group of citizens had placed a 10-meter-tall cross on the 665-meter-high peak of Sivritepe on Sunday, 23 November, and shared videos of the installation on social media. After the footage went viral, the İskeçe Forest Directorate summoned the individuals involved to determine who erected the cross, under what decision, and whether the necessary permits had been obtained.
The development sparked reactions not only in İskeçe but also in various regions across the country. The decision to summon the citizens for statements drew widespread criticism and became a topic of debate on social media.
