Inclusion of the Dedeağaç–Sigri Midilli–Mesta Sakız ferry route in the public investment development program (APDE) with mandatory stop at Piraeus Port
By decision of Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis, the ferry service “Dedeağaç–Sigri Midilli–Mesta Sakız with mandatory stop at Piraeus Port” is included in the Public Investment Development Program (APDE), with a total public expenditure of €12,499,200.
The project aims to support and restructure the local economy after the devastating wildfires, by reducing transport costs for local businesses.
Specifically, the proposal provides for funding the ferry route for one weekly sailing over a three-year period, operated by a cargo–passenger vessel, with the obligation to transport for free the cargo of businesses in Meriç prefecture. Each voyage must allocate and reserve 2,000 sq. m. of space for the free cargo, available until twelve hours before the scheduled departure of the ship.
This follows the prior inclusion of the project in the Sectoral Development Program of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, by decision of Minister Vassilis Kikilias.
