Government Responds to MP Zeybek's Inquiry Two Months Later
Zeybek highlighted the government's delayed response as further evidence of its lack of priority for Xanthi producers.
In a press release, Zeybek detailed the situation, noting that on May 29, 2024, a severe hailstorm struck villages in the Avdira Municipality, causing significant damage to agricultural products. Following the storm, Zeybek submitted a parliamentary inquiry on June 4, 2024 (No. 5014/04.06.2024), requesting prompt compensation for the affected farmers and the implementation of aerial hail protection measures in the region.
The government's response, delivered two months later, was met with disappointment by Zeybek. He criticized the reply for its lack of specific commitments and for excluding Xanthi from protective measures against future hailstorms. "Once again, it has become clear that the government does not prioritize the needs of Xanthi’s farmers," Zeybek said.
Zeybek expressed frustration that while funds for government allies are quickly allocated, the needs of hardworking citizens in the primary production sector are ignored. He reiterated the importance of supporting the local community and called for the immediate payment of compensation to the affected farmers in Xanthi.
