Government prioritizes upgrade of border stations
The modernization of the Kipi (Bahçeköy) Border Crossing Station and the relocation and construction of a new station at Kastanies (Çörekköy), on Greece’s border with Turkiye in Evros (Meriç), are projects of strategic importance and top government priority, Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace Dimitris Galamatis said on Thursday.
Speaking during a visit to Kipi (Bahçeköy), Galamatis stressed that both projects are already moving forward at a rapid pace. He pledged close monitoring to ensure progress continues and underlined that any issues arising would be promptly addressed AMNA reported.
A dedicated monitoring team has been set up within the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace, while Galamatis called on all local authorities and agencies to cooperate in bringing the projects to completion.
Details of the projects
The concession for the upgrade of the Kipi (Bahçeköy) Border Station, valued at 13 million euros, was signed on July 8.
The new Kastanies (Çörekköy) Border Crossing Station will replace the current one and will serve passenger traffic only (customs and passport control), excluding trade crossings.
The masterplan for the Kastanies (Çörekköy) project is expected by September 2025, with implementation to be undertaken by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace through a programming contract.
