The need to ensure the full operation of the Fire Station in Ehinos was a key issue raised during a working meeting between İskeçe Deputy Regional Governor Vasiliki Pavlakaki, regional councilors Salih Yoruk, Ibrahim Amucka and İrfan Hatzigkene, and Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados.

The meeting was held at the İskeçe Regional Unit, where local officials briefed the deputy minister on civil protection priorities and ongoing efforts in the region.

A central issue raised by all participants was the immediate and full operation of the Şahin Fire Station, particularly on a 24-hour basis.

According to the officials, the station’s building infrastructure and related works have been fully completed with funding from the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region. However, efforts to secure sufficient personnel have so far been unsuccessful, preventing the station from operating around the clock with trained volunteer firefighters.

Katsafados was also briefed in detail on prevention, emergency response and recovery measures being implemented in cooperation with local authorities and other institutions across the İskeçe regional unit. The deputy minister reportedly expressed satisfaction with the work being carried out.

Regarding the Ehinos Fire Station, Katsafados committed to personally conveying the local authorities’ request to the relevant minister.

Local officials described the issue as a critical and vital matter for protecting the mountainous areas of İskeçe and their residents from the risk of wildfires.

The regional administration said it would continue working under the leadership of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Governor Hristodulos Topsidis and Deputy Regional Governor for Civil Protection Konstantinos Venetidis to strengthen civil protection and improve safety across the region.
