Fire breaks out in Central İskeçe, thick smoke covers city center
According to initial reports, the blaze started inside the kitchen section of a well-known café and restaurant located in a building on İskeçe’s central square. The fire reportedly spread rapidly to the building’s chimney system before emergency crews arrived on the scene.
Authorities dispatched three fully equipped fire engines to the area within a short time. Firefighters managed to contain the flames quickly, preventing what officials described as a potentially much larger disaster in the densely populated city center.
During the incident, thick smoke rising from the building spread across downtown Xanthi, reducing visibility and alarming pedestrians and nearby business owners.
An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire, while officials have yet to release a formal assessment regarding the extent of the material damage.
No casualties or injuries were immediately reported.
