FEP Party attracted great attention in European Parliament elections becoming the first party in Western Thrace and increasing its votes all around the country.

The Friendship, Equality and Peace Party (FEP) became the first party in the provinces Rodopi and Xanthi in European Parliament Elections which held on 26 May, by the overwhelming support of the Turkish Muslim Minority living in Greece.

FEP Party’s success disturbs the enemies of the Minority

It was noted that the party is trying to expand the voting potential in this election throughout the country. The far-rightists, who could not digest the success of the party, targeted the FEP which is the symbol of the minority's rights struggle and its voters through the media and other social networks.

In social platforms was used hate speeches against Turkish Minority as "No to party of Turks”, “This party should be closed”, “People who defend the existence of the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace, -Go to Turkey”, “Turks out" by racist people. Nevertheless, Greek media continued to target Turkish Muslim Minority by threatening publications ignoring the danger.

The distribution of votes of the FEP Party

According to the latest results of the Ministry of Interior, the distribution of votes of the FEP Party in the EP elections was as follows:

Rodopi Province

Turnout: %54,72
Invalid/Blank: %6,74

FEF Party: %38,01 (23.069)
ND: %19,69 (11.951)
SIRIZA: %13,74 (8.341)
KINAL: %5,68 (3.446)

 

Xanthi Province

Turnout: %53,84
Invalid/Blank: %6,81

FEF Party: %25,04 (14.972)
ND: %24,43 (14.610)
SIRIZA: %19,16 (11.458)
KINAL: %4,46 (2.667)

FEP Party was ranked 10th in the province of Evros.

Another remarkable result for the FEP Party was the increase of votes all around Greece. FEP Party received 1145 votes apart from Western Thrace, whilst in previous European Parliament Elections, in 2014, the party could collect only 136 votes. The FEP Party had 30 votes from abroad as well.

The FEP Party failed to pass the 3% election threshold which is applied across the country and could not send MPs to the EP. According to the results, MPs of Greece elected as follows: ND (8), SYRIZA (6), KINAL (2), KKE (2), Golden Dawn (2), and Hellenic Solution (1) MPs send to European Parliament.
