Evros: 21 undocumented migrants found hidden inside truck
A foreign national was arrested on Tuesday morning at the Kipi Border Crossing Point in Evros after attempting to smuggle 21 undocumented migrants into Greece.
According to police authorities, the suspect was driving a truck with a trailer and attempted to enter the country through the checkpoint. During a thorough inspection carried out by officers from the Kipi Passport Control Department, with the assistance of customs officials and the use of a heartbeat detection device, 21 migrants were discovered hidden inside the trailer.
The vehicle and several mobile phones were seized by authorities. The suspect is expected to be brought before the Public Prosecutor of Alexandroupolis, while the Tychero Border Guard Department is conducting the preliminary investigation.
This incident highlights the continued challenges faced by Greek border authorities in curbing illegal human smuggling activities at the country’s eastern frontiers.
