Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region funds road projects in Kozlukebir Municipality
The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) is financing a series of road projects in the Municipality of Arriana through the Regional Development Program, Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis announced on Wednesday.
Governor Topsidis, accompanied by regional officials, attended the contract signing ceremony at the Kozlukebir town hall in Sirkeli, hosted by Mayor Erdem Hüseyin. The event was followed by site visits to the project areas in Dokos and Archontika.
The funded works include:
- Improvement and asphalting of the municipal road to Dokos settlement (€290,000), aimed at ensuring safer and uninterrupted access for residents.
- Restoration of the asphalt surface at the entrance to Archontika settlement (€37,000), addressing a long-standing demand of locals by improving connectivity with the Gümülcine–Şapçı provincial road.
During his visit, the governor also inspected the Pontikorema crossing project, part of a €1.4 million scheme to upgrade Irish crossings and improve the Gümülcine–Gratini–Kozlukebir provincial road. The project involves enhancing an existing Irish crossing west of Arriana, improving safety for vehicles.
“Our priority as a Regional Authority is to improve the daily lives of citizens in every corner of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace,” said Governor Topsidis. “Through the Regional Development Program, we fund essential projects in road infrastructure, water supply, and flood prevention – projects that may not be flashy, but solve decades-old problems.”
He added that the Arriana road upgrades will not only enhance safety but also contribute to better living conditions and local development.
Governor Topsidis was accompanied by Deputy Regional Governors Emmanouil Tapatzas (Rhodope), Ritvan Hatzi Memet (Agriculture and Livestock), Molla Isa Ritvan (Digital Transition), and Ahmet Osman Pehlivan (Land Policy and Mountain Areas).
