Drug detection dog Laika finds 4.3 kilograms of cannabis at Meriç border crossing
The arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday as part of targeted operations against drug trafficking conducted by the Narcotics Enforcement Department of the Alexandroupoli Sub-Directorate for Crime Investigation and Prosecution, in cooperation with Kipi Customs officials and passport control officers.
During a vehicle inspection at the Kipi Border Crossing, authorities discovered that the driver was transporting a quantity of raw cannabis while attempting to leave Greece.
With the assistance of Laika, the narcotics detection dog of the Alexandroupoli Crime Investigation and Prosecution Sub-Directorate, officers found 10 carefully concealed nylon packages inside the vehicle’s luggage compartment.
The packages contained a total of 4.37 kilograms of raw cannabis.
Authorities seized the drugs, the vehicle and a mobile phone believed to be connected to the case.
The arrested individual was brought before the Prosecutor’s Office of Alexandroupoli, while the preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Alexandroupoli Sub-Directorate for Crime Investigation and Prosecution.
