The case, which was discussed until late on Friday, July 1, was decided to continue tomorrow (Thursday, July 7).
The case regarding the Sultan Çelebi Mehmet Mosque (Beyazıt Mosque) in Dimetoka, which was badly damaged in the fire in March 2017, was discussed on Friday, 1 July. It was decided that the case, which lasted until 18:00, would continue on Thursday, July 7 (tomorrow).
In the case that was heard at the Single Judge Criminal Court in Kumçiftiliği (Orestiada), the expert report appointed by the company "Dedalos", which was working on restoring the roof of the mosque in 2017, was presented for the first time.
Later, statements were taken from the three defendants who had ties to the company. There are six defendants in the case. It was stated that 9 people related to the case are to testify.
Six defendants (three contractors of the company, representative of the subcontractor company and workshop workers) are facing trial on charges of arson, damage to the historical monument, negligence and the destruction of a significant part of the mosque as a result of the fire.
The trial, which was postponed to Thursday, July 7 (tomorrow), will continue with the defense of the defendants. The defendants argue that they did not have any negligence regarding the fire, and that the fire started due to electrical leakage.
