The case of the Beyazıt Mosque in Dimetoka, which was badly damaged as a result of the fire on 22 March 2017, is being discussed today (Thursday, 30 June).

According to the news in Ert Orestiada, the case of six defendants related to the fire that broke out in Beyazıt Mosque in 2017 will be heard in the Single Judge Criminal Court of Orestiada (Kumçiftliği) today.

Six defendants (three contractors of the company, representative of the subcontractor and workshop workers) are brought before the judge on charges of arson, damage to the historical monument, negligence and the destruction of a significant part of the mosque as a result of the fire.

On the other hand, it was stated that 9 witnesses will be heard in the case.

It is estimated that the contractor, who undertook the restoration of the roof of the historical mosque, was accused of causing the fire and that the wooden roof caught fire, especially while the teams were carrying out a work that sparked.

The case, which was postponed several times before, is expected to be concluded today.
