The event brought together regional stakeholders and industry representatives to discuss the evolving dynamics of transport, energy and trade across Southeastern Europe.

Among the participants were Christodoulos Topsidis, Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and Theodoros Markopoulos, Deputy Regional Governor of Kavala.

Strategic Importance of Dedeağaç and Kavala

Speaking at the meeting, Topsidis emphasized that the region is increasingly positioned at the center of major geopolitical and economic developments as transportation routes, energy networks and trade corridors are being redefined.

He highlighted the strategic potential of the Port of Dedeağaç and the Port of Kavala, noting that ongoing infrastructure investments could transform the area into a key gateway connecting the Aegean Sea with the Black Sea and Europe’s inland markets.

New Opportunities Through Transport Corridors

According to Topsidis, the development of the Aegean–Black Sea Vertical Corridor, alongside upgrades to port and railway infrastructure, is expected to open new opportunities for regional economic growth, trade expansion and energy security.

“The geographical position of our region gives us a significant advantage,” he said, adding that stronger cooperation and coordinated planning could transform this advantage into a powerful development driver for northern Greece.

Regional Cooperation for Economic Growth

The governor also thanked Savvas Karafyllidis, President of the Bulgarian-Greek Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for organizing the meeting and launching the initiative that brought together stakeholders from across the region.

He stressed that collaborative efforts among governments, regional authorities and economic actors are essential to strengthening infrastructure connectivity and maximizing the region’s strategic potential.
