Carbon footprint reduction initiatives launch in Western Thrace
The “Carbon Footprint Office,” established by the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region, has begun activities to raise awareness among citizens, farmers, businesses, and local authorities and to promote the reduction of carbon emissions.
Regional Governor Hristodulos Topsidis described the office as “an informative and guiding center for both citizens and institutions,” adding, “This office will facilitate the transition to sustainable practices for everyone and support green development.”
The office will provide guidance on reducing carbon emissions, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, and sustainable production methods. Scientific consulting and training sessions will be organized in collaboration with the Balkan Environmental Center and the Alexandria Innovation District.
As part of the initiative, six public information events will be held across the region from November 3 to 7, in Drama, İskeçe, Gümülcine, Dedeağaç, and Kavala. Participants will learn about carbon footprint reduction strategies, carbon management in agriculture, and sustainable business practices.
Specifically, the event in İskeçe will take place on November 5 at 9:00 a.m. at the Hacidakis House, while the Gümülcine session will be held the same day at 12:30 p.m. in the Y. Pavlidis Hall of the former governor’s building.
What Is a Carbon Footprint?
A carbon footprint measures the amount of greenhouse gases directly and indirectly released into the atmosphere by an individual, organization, or product. It can also be summarized as the total environmental impact resulting from daily energy use, transportation, consumption, and production activities.
