Dates and Agha of 2025 Alantepe Festival announced
Ahmet Akraba has been named this year’s wrestling sponsor (agha), as confirmed by Kozlukebir Mayor Erdem Hüseyin during a press conference held today at the municipality's main office in Sirkeli village.
The festival will take place over three days, from Friday, August 22 to Sunday, August 24.
Ahmet Akraba Takes Over as Festival Agha
During the announcement, Mayor Hüseyin expressed gratitude to Sinan Hasan, last year’s wrestling ağa, for his contributions and confirmed that the role has now been passed on to Ahmet Akraba from Kuzuören village.
Emphasizing the cultural significance of the Alantepe Oil Wrestling Festival within the Western Thrace Turkish minority, Mayor Hüseyin stated:
“Last year’s event drew an impressive crowd of nearly 12,000 attendees. Much of this success was thanks to the dedication of our former agha, Sinan Hasan. We believe Ahmet Akraba will show the same commitment this year. He is a well-respected figure in our community, known for his integrity and ongoing support for our municipality.”
Thanks Extended to Turkish Officials
Mayor Hüseyin also extended his thanks to Hakan Çavuşoğlu, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkiye and current member of the Presidential Legal Policies Board, for his continued support of the Alantepe Festival.
Preparations Underway
With preparations already in full swing, the Mayor noted that further details about the program and participants will be shared with the public in the coming days.
The Alantepe Oil Wrestling Festival, one of the oldest and most cherished cultural events of the Western Thrace Turkish community, continues to serve as a symbol of unity, heritage, and tradition in the region.
