Greek Minister of Agriculture and Food, Kostas Čiaras, has announced financial aid ranging from 250 to 500 euros for sheep and goat breeders affected by the recent outbreaks of plague and pox.
Compensation of 250 to 500 euros for each culled animal

This support comes in response to the devastation faced by livestock farmers, particularly in the aftermath of disease outbreaks, which have resulted in the culling of more than 44,000 animals nationwide.

Following discussions with cooperative representatives, Minister Čiaras also revealed that apple producers in Thessaly affected by the "Daniel" disaster will receive aid. A decree, authorized by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is set to revise compensation amounts for culled livestock, with the goal of providing more substantial support to breeders.

Under the new regulation, the compensation per culled female animal will increase from 150 euros to 250 euros, while for male animals, the amount will rise to 500 euros. Additionally, a support program will be implemented to assist breeders in replacing their culled animals at no cost.

This initiative reflects the government’s efforts to alleviate the financial burden on farmers who have been severely impacted by the recent outbreaks and natural disasters.
