Anti-war rally held in Dedeağaç under slogan “Port of the Peoples”
The demonstration was organized by the Dedeağaç Peace Committee along with workers’ unions and mass organizations from the Dedeağaç region. Participants voiced strong opposition to militarization and called for the protection of labor rights amid what they described as the pressures of a “war economy.”
The gathering was held at the city’s Academy Park, where speakers addressed the crowd on issues ranging from workers’ rights to geopolitical tensions.
Among the speakers were Pantelis Tsakos, president of the local private sector employees’ union, and Vaios Tsaprounis. The keynote speech was delivered by Alexandra Stamatelatou on behalf of the organizing committee.
Speakers criticized economic inequalities and argued that workers bear the cost of both peace and wartime policies. They also expressed opposition to military involvement abroad and the use of Dedeağaç as a strategic military hub.
The rally concluded with calls for solidarity, peace, and the safeguarding of social and labor rights, reflecting broader concerns within segments of Greek society over regional security dynamics.
