The president of Nea Aristera (New Left), Alexis Haritsis, is expected to visit the farmers’ roadblocks in Thrace on Thursday, 11 December, as he himself announced.

Haritsis openly expressed his support for the farmers, stressing that “farmers have been waiting for months to receive their payments and in the end they see nothing but crumbs. Livestock farmers are in despair as they lose their herds. Production costs are skyrocketing, and fuel and supplies have become unaffordable.”

In this suffocating environment, he added, “the agricultural world learns every day that the money they lacked has turned into outrageous wealth for top New Democracy officials with the backing of the party-state.”

Haritsis emphasised that nationwide mobilisations are intensifying, as “the collapse of the countryside has become a universal experience. The people of production can no longer endure mockery.”

He clarified that the protests are “not extreme actions, but a cry of anguish — and society must stand beside them.”

Concluding, Haritsis noted: “On Thursday I will be at the roadblocks in Thrace. And if I get sued again, as I did recently in Karditsa, so be it. I stand with the farmers. Until justice is served.”
