Advisory Board reacts to the closure of Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association

The Consultative Committee of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace reacted to the closure decision of the "Western Thrace Fenerbahce Sports and Culture Association" issued by the Rodopi Civil Court of First Instance.

In the statement made by the Advisory Board Delegation consisting of Western Thrace Turkish Minority representatives, it was stated that Greece could not tolerate even sports fans who love different colours and it is a matter of curiosity how progress will be made in the chronic problems of Western Thrace Turks.

In the statement, it was stated that the recent moderate atmosphere between Turkey and Greece has not been reciprocated by the minorities and the closure decision of Greece against the Fenerbahce Association was strongly condemned.

The condemnation issued by the Consultative Committee of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace is as follows

"As of Tuesday, 28 May 2024, the closure case filed against the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association at the Civil Court of First Instance in Komotini has been finalised and decided. In this context, the decision was in favour of the closure of the officially operating Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association. As it is understood from the decision, the recent moderate atmosphere between our country Greece and Motherland Turkey has not been reciprocated by our minority and the differences we have were not tolerated and tried to be restricted through the judiciary. When our country Greece cannot even tolerate sports fans who love different colours, how will the chronic problems of our minority be overcome and what kind of progress will be made in terms of minority rights. We strongly condemn this decision taken by our country Greece and expect justice to be restored and the rights of our association to be restored."
