ABTTF's lawsuit against 'newsbreak.gr' news website heard in Athens Court

The European Western Thrace Turkish Federation (ABTTF) has filed a lawsuit for defamation and false reporting against the news website newsbreak.gr. The lawsuit, initiated due to misleading articles published about ABTTF, was heard on May 8, 2025, in an Athens court.
The hearing took place at the Athens Multi-Judge Civil Court where ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu, ABTTF’s lawyer, and the organization’s legal advisor were present.
The case stems from an article published by newsbreak.gr on October 27, 2021, which alleged that the ABTTF's 21st General Assembly was involved in a provocative act related to the Western Thrace flag in Germany. The article, labeled as false and defamatory by ABTTF, led the organization to file a lawsuit against the website and the company that owns it.
ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu addressed the matter, stating:
“We are here today in Athens for the hearing of the lawsuit we filed against newsbreak.gr for publishing false news about our federation. We will continue our legal action against those who attempt to defame and discredit us. We will not remain silent against the lies and slanders of those who seek to undermine our efforts to raise awareness about the issues facing the Turkish community of Western Thrace. We will continue to pursue justice, as we have done in the case against newsbreak.gr.”
The ABTTF remains committed to pursuing legal action to protect its reputation and to ensure the truth is upheld in relation to the issues facing the Turkish minority in the region.
