A permanent military power in Western Thrace was demanded by Kammenos

Defense Minister Panos Kammenos suggested that the United States should increase the number of permanent military force in the country.
Kammenos, in the meeting which was held in Pentagon with the Defence Minister of USA Jim Mattis, said that Greece sees the USA as the only reliable strategic partner.
"It is important for Greece to deploy a more permanent military force not only in the Gulf of Souda but also in Larissa, Volos and Alexandroupolis." used expressions by Kammenos.
Besides the naval base in the Gulf of Souda in the Isle of Crete, there are also Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) units in the air base in Larissa.
Last week, USA’s Ambassador of Athens Geoffrey Pyat had visited Alexandroupolis. Pyat, stating that his visit shows the interest of his country to the region, specified that he is satisfied because of the military forces moved to the region with a strategic importance.
The demand of permanent military base in Western Thrace made by Kammenos, who is also known for his anti-Turkish and anti-Islamic attitude, created some questions in the minds of the Turkish Minority.
