Over 4 million travelers passed through Edirne Border Gates during expatriate season
Governor of Edirne Yunus Sezer announced that more than 4 million passengers crossed through the province’s border gates during this year’s expatriate season.
Speaking at a press conference at the Governorship, Sezer noted that the season, which began on June 22, will conclude in the first week of September.
Smooth Crossings with Fewer Delays
The governor underlined that all necessary measures were taken to ensure smooth travel for expatriates returning to or departing from Europe.
“This is our final week. The return traffic has significantly decreased. This year, with the support of the Interior and Trade ministries, the measures taken by the Governorship, the increase in the number of booths, and the meetings we held with officials in Greece and Bulgaria, we had a successful season,” he said.
Reduced Waiting Times
According to Sezer, waiting times at border crossings were significantly reduced compared to previous years, when long queues were common.
“Thanks to our colleagues, who worked around the clock on a 24/7 basis, the process went smoothly,” he added.
Over 1 Million Vehicles Crossed
During the season, a total of 1,027,996 vehicles passed through Edirne’s border gates, averaging 15,000 vehicles per day. Passenger numbers reached 4,096,911.
At peak times, waiting times reached one hour, while on other days the average was 39 minutes, Sezer reported.
He concluded by wishing expatriates a safe journey back: “We hope our citizens had an enjoyable holiday and return safely to the countries where they reside.”
