Aid campaigns launched in Greece, Italy and Germany
After the earthquakes, the epicenter of which was in the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş in Turkey and affecting 10 provinces in total, aid campaigns were launched for earthquake victims in Greece, Italy, and Germany.
In its announcement, the Greek Red Cross stated that it will collect basic foodstuffs, sleeping bags, blankets, and personal hygiene items to be sent to earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria.
Greek Union of Municipalities President Dimitris Papastergiu also made a written call to all municipalities in the country to collect supplies for earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria.
"In the face of such an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy, it is our duty to support those in need as soon as possible," the written call said.
Many municipalities in the country, especially the Municipalities of Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, and Patra, and the Fighting Workers' Front Union (PAME) launched an aid campaign for the earthquake victims.
The Universal Federation of Greeks of Istanbul announced that it will start blood donation on Saturday in cooperation with the Red Cross and the Red Crescent. The Federation also called for the collection of various food and aid materials to be sent to earthquake victims.
Meanwhile, the Italian Red Cross also launched a donation campaign to help Türkiye and Syria due to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.
ITALY
Italian Red Cross President Rosario Valastro said in a statement, "At these dramatic hours, there is a need to help the peoples of Türkiye and Syria, hit by an extremely severe earthquake. The Red Cross is ready to send humanitarian aid and join international relief efforts. In the face of such a dramatic devastation, anyone can donate or offer their help."
Valastro noted that his thoughts are with those who lost their lives and with the Turkish Red Crescent and Syrian Red Crescent, who have been trying to do their best since the beginning.
GERMANY
Many aid organizations in Germany, especially the Red Cross, started a donation campaign to help Türkiye and Syria due to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.
Organizations such as the German Red Cross (DRK), Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft, Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Humedica started to collect donations for earthquake victims on their websites.
The Turkish-Islamic Union of Religious Affairs (DITIB) also launched an aid campaign yesterday.
