Switzerland reached the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over Algeria, extending their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Breel Embolo opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Dan Ndoye doubled the lead seconds after the break, leaving Switzerland in full control. The Swiss will face either Colombia or Ghana in the next round.

Algeria exited in the round of 32, becoming one of several African teams eliminated, with Morocco now the continent’s only remaining representative.

Portugal edge Croatia in stoppage-time drama

Portugal booked a last-16 clash with Spain after a dramatic 2-1 win over Croatia, sealed by Gonçalo Ramos’ stoppage-time header.

Cristiano Ronaldo had earlier equalized from the penalty spot after Ivan Perišić gave Croatia the lead. Ramos struck in added time as Portugal staged a late comeback.

After the match, Ronaldo paid tribute to late teammate Diogo Jota by holding up a Portugal shirt bearing the No. 21.

Balogun scored before his dismissal, while Malik Tillman added a second for the Americans, who will face Belgium in the next round.

Belgium recovered from two goals down to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time in Seattle.

Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans forced a comeback before Tielemans scored the winner from the penalty spot in the 125th minute. Belgium will meet either the United States or Bosnia in the last 16.

England rally past DR Congo

England came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 and secure their place in the round of 16.

Brian Cipenga gave DR Congo an early lead, but Harry Kane struck twice in the second half to complete the turnaround. England will face Mexico in the next round.
