Turkish Minority youth competed in the mountain runs in two different distances organized by the Rhodope Runners Association on Sunday, November 20, 2020.

Rhodope Runners Association is an association established and operating in Komotini since 2019 with the initiative of people with great interest in running and sports.

Members of the association are amateur athletes, and many of them stand out in road races held on asphalt, mountain and track.

The aim of the association is to popularize running and to develop sports with all the benefits it brings, competitive spirit, and body and spirit development, maintaining good physical condition, entertainment, promotion of social life and leisure time away from the stress and routine of daily life.

In addition, the association participates in road races and other social and cultural events in Komotini, aiming to highlight the city and the people of the region in the races held throughout the country.

However, the association is trying to spread the running movement to as many people as possible to make it a lifestyle.

The association invites everyone to participate in running events, reminding that you don't have to be a champion or senior athlete to start running.

Rhodope Runners Association organized two mountain runs in Nimfea forest in Komotini on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

Among the races, the 32-kilometer Tuvunu Mountain Run was organized for the 11th time. The other was the 12-kilometer Kanoni Mountain Run, organized for the second time.

A large number of young, middle and above-middle-aged runners from the majority and minority participated in the races, which started in foggy weather as of 09:00 on Sunday morning.

Both male and female runners competed in both races.

Siopidis Kostantinos was the winner with a timing of 03:20:07.370 in the men's category in the 32-kilometer Tuvunu Mountain Run, while Kokinariu Irini won the women's category with a timing of 03:40:02.572.

PARTICIPATION FROM TURKISH MINORITY MEMBERS

One of the three male runners who took the stage in the competition was young doctor Rıdvan Molla from Komotini.

Dr. Rıdvan Molla completed the 12-kilometer race in the 3rd place with a timing of 01:15:40,756 and became one of the runners who received a medal.

There were no Turkish minority participants in the women's category.

In the men's category, Mehmet İbram made the best time of 03:34:14.396 and finished the race in 7th place.

In the 12-kilometer Kanoni Mountain Run, Polihronis Milonas came first in the men's category with a timing of 01:10:19.388, while Stafi Stavrula took the first place in the women's category with a timing of 01:31:57.709.
